Road To Justice League: Long & Winding & Obstacle Filled

The road to the about-to-be-released Justice League film has been a long and winding one.

Long and winding and fraught with bumps and pitfalls and massive industry, cultural, commercial and familial obstacles.

Resiliently plowing through these numerous impediments, Warner Brothers has finally made good on a long-standing promise to showcase the greatest heroes of pop culture on the silver screen – the comic book visages of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg, the Justice League, together for the first time.

Sort of.

It’s actually not technically the first time the Justice League has been together on screen. There have actually been numerous iterations of the group over the years. But the road taken for this particular Justice League, is an interesting one indeed.

To get to here, let’s take a quick look back at there, and all the previously mentioned hazards that nearly conquered the world’s greatest superheroes.

Celebrate An Early #WonderWomanDay w. “Wonder Woman Annual #1” On The Wednesday Run

Even if you had your head under a rock, you’d know that there’s a highly anticipated (and finally!) Wonder Woman film being released this weekend!

Early reviews have been positive to absolutely glowing – and that sense of affirmation is just the vaccination that the DC Extended Universe film franchise has desperately needed! With the tent pole Justice League film dropping later this year and the cinematic debut of Aquaman now firmly in production, the Wonder Woman film had a massive pop culture encumbrance to bear on its shoulders.

Indeed, perhaps unfairly, the future of Warner Brother’s comic book universe of films was in absolute jeopardy due to previously dark and critically lackluster movies.

Thankfully, that sentiment is not the same in the comic book world – the wellspring of these globally recognized pop culture icons.

This Saturday, June 3, is appropriately, #WonderWomanDay. Fans around the world will be celebrating the feminist icon with comic book readings, cosplay, theater-goings and much, much more.

But you can get an early start on the festivities today with the release of Wonder Woman Annual #1 – a fantastic introduction to the character for readers of any age!

Revisited: “Suicide Squad” Easter Eggs Wants

Suicide Squad posterWith the obvious front-loaded fan base of the Suicide Squad film, David Ayer’s critically panned flick still made mad money in its first weekend of release to the tune of $135 million.

And then it managed to defy hugely lowered box office expectations in its second weekend, bringing in another $45 million.

We all know that critical appraisals haven’t been kind, but we have our more upbeat review of the flawed movie here, if you’re interested in a little Internet positivity. I know. It’s tough to come by these days.

Like all big comic-book-to-film movies, we here at BBP are always wanting Easter Eggs and, despite the relative obscurity of its’ main characters, it was no different with Suicide Squad. In fact, the fertile grounds that give birth to these kinds of Eggs might have never been riper!

You can catch up on our Suicide Squad Easter Eggs Wants right here, but now that we’ve all seen the flick, let’s find out if we got the secret, tasty eggs we were hoping for!

The DC Extended Universe (DCEU) Of Movies: Where To Now?

JusticeLeagueSo Deadpool was apparently a big learning experience for all the companies building their own Cinematic Universes. Apparently the main lesson they learned was that an R-Rated genre film could, in fact, succeed at the box office. So yay for that! I look forward to a Restricted Transformers film being released and I not having to attend it.

But that’s not the main lesson that should be learned from Deadpool’s success.

There are actually two lessons that people should take away from it, located after this cut.

Revisited: BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE Easter Egg Wants

imageEarlier this month, in anticipation of the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Biff Bam Pop! contributors and comic book enthusiasts Glenn Walker, Justin Mohareb and JP Fallavollita each listed the Top 3 Easter Eggs that they wanted to see in the film.

You can find that particular post right here, but today, after viewing the movie on opening weekend, these three DC Comics aficionados are going to revisit the secret nods to comic book lore they were hoping to find:

Justin, with his secret (or not-so-secret) love of: Darkseid, the Multiverse, crazy comic book Geography and, of course, cinema whimsy.

Glenn, with his all-consuming desire for: Atlantis, Amazonian magic and bona fide heroics.

JP, with his obscure and obtuse needs for: Green Lantern Corps, Brainiac and (an unhealthy) and meaningful Suicide Squad tie-in.

Did they get what they wanted in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice? Only the jump knows for sure!

BBP’s Running Reviews Of: BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE

imageYou couldn’t have missed it.

Last weekend, the latest large-popcorn, comic book superhero, cinematic-universe-builder blockbuster, dropped into movie theatres everywhere.

And much like the citizens of fictional Metropolis, none of us could escape the heavy-handed and all-encompassing fallout from both advertising and on-line word of mouth. A strange thing happened after you bought your theatre tickets in advance.

Last week the online crowd roared loader than Doomsday. People hated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Loathed it, in fact.

But was it all that bad?

Over the course of the day, Biff Bam Pop! writers will give their high level take on the film. Check back regularly, as more contributions are added to this post of reviews that are sure to run the gamut of praise and abhorrence.

Let’s not waste another bat-second. Our heroic thoughts on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice are but a super-jump away!
