There’s snow on the ground here in Toronto…and also in the fictional town of Riverdale!
We must be smack dab in the heart of the holiday season!
Whether it’s Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or any other mid-to-late December celebration, you’ve hopefully got the spirit of the season in you by now! I mean, it’s been nothing but ornaments, tinsel, candles, multiple Santa, Hallmark Holiday movies and family get-togethers the past few weeks (and weeks to come).
And even the comic book industry has gotten in on the holiday cheer, publishing some seasonal specials this month. This very column focused on one of them a week ago, which you can read here.
Today sees the release of another one of them, as always, perfectly timed and full of fun! Check out the Archie Christmas Spectacular!
31 Days Of Horror: The Wednesday Run Visits Spooky Riverdale With The “Archie Halloween Spectacular” & More
Well, maybe it’s just growing up that can be scary at times.
Depending upon what you’re reading (or watching these days!) and between boyfriends and girlfriends, bullies and gossipers, teachers and principals, moms and dads, and all sorts of mischief by friends – Riverdale, home to Archie and his pals, can be a pretty scary place (especially in October!)…but it’s also a pretty interesting and fun place to visit alongside your best fictional pals!
The adventures of Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead and all the others continue in amazing popularity with kids and adults – over seventy five years after they first saw publication, way back in 1941!
And, keeping up with trends and interests of a twenty-first century fan-base, Archie, like us at Biff Bam Pop!, loves the Halloween season.
Continuing with our month-long 31 Days of Horror theme, that’s why this particular column is focusing on Archie Comics today…and their release of the Archie Halloween Spectacular #1!
This time on Heroes and Villains, we’ll be looking at a variety of comics out this week and last, from a variety of genres. Meet me after the jump for my thoughts on Bankshot #1, Batman #25, Aquaman #25, Conan the Slayer #10, Robyn Hood: Tarot One-Shot, and WWE #6… be warned, there may be spoilers…
Greetings, Riverheads! Apologies for taking so long to get back to you. So much has been happening in our little land of the gingers! Love blooms and wilts, intrigues are being hatched, treachery and subterfuge are the rule of the day! Corporate competitions turn into bloody beatings!
You didn’t think you’d get this from a show based on characters originally appearing in Pep Comics, did you?
If you’re not coming to Biff Bam Pop! for insightful readings and interviews on your favourite television shows, movies, video games or music, then you must be coming here for the comic books! Right? Right!
And what would a Holiday Gift Guide be, here on Biff Bam Pop!, if we didn’t make mention of some of the great comic book collections that should be under the tree, or given as a gift for every fan this season?
Here it is, then:
Over the rest of the week, we’ll be listing some of the cheaper, more moderate, are quite expensive trade paperback and hardcover collections of some of the best comic book reading you or a loved one will likely experience this year! Let’s hit the more affordable ones first, shall we?
Follow me after the jump for all the winter holiday horror, detective sci-fi, comedy and heroic fiction that needs to be read!
Rejoice! FAN EXPO Canada is back, T-Dot (resident and visiting) peeps!
What’s “T-Dot”, you ask? Well, that’s just me shouting out the glorious city of Toronto with my best urban inflection. FAN EXPO Canada, of course, is the third largest pop culture event in North America, a worthy happening for any lover of comic books, sci-fi, horror, anime or gaming.
Now entering its 20th year (you’re all grown up!), and boasting over 1000 exhibitors over 750,000 square feet comprised of both the north and south buildings that make up the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, FAN EXPO Canada expects to host well over 100.000 fans.
If you plan to be one of them over the next four days, follow me after the jump for a highlight list of some exciting events on a schedule brimming full of exciting events!
This past week Life with Archie #36 came out, and if you’ve been paying attention to various news outlets, and the comics press for the last few months, you know it’s the death of Archie Andrews. But that’s not the end of it, it’s not even the tip of the iceberg. We’ll get a bit of background, and learn all about life and death with Archie, after the jump.
There are lots of new comic books out on the store shelves today. Lots.
All of the publishing companies, big and small, are pushing books out on the last before-the-holidays Wednesday even though there’s still one more Wednesday Run to go before the end of the year. That means that there are a lot of great comics to read while sitting by the fire and watching (hopefully) a little snow fall and whiten the ground, a cup of hot, chocolaty cocoa nearby.
That’s how I’m hoping to be spending some of my December days. It sounds like a bit of a nostalgic throwback to a bygone era, doesn’t it? A time when newspapers were sold at kiosks on street corners and movie theatres showed adventure films in weekly instalments! Well, that’s exactly what The Black Beetle: Night Shift #0 is. A throwback. And you should be picking it up today!
