There’s snow on the ground here in Toronto…and also in the fictional town of Riverdale!
We must be smack dab in the heart of the holiday season!
Whether it’s Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or any other mid-to-late December celebration, you’ve hopefully got the spirit of the season in you by now! I mean, it’s been nothing but ornaments, tinsel, candles, multiple Santa, Hallmark Holiday movies and family get-togethers the past few weeks (and weeks to come).
And even the comic book industry has gotten in on the holiday cheer, publishing some seasonal specials this month. This very column focused on one of them a week ago, which you can read here.
Today sees the release of another one of them, as always, perfectly timed and full of fun! Check out the Archie Christmas Spectacular!
31 Days Of Horror: The Wednesday Run Visits Spooky Riverdale With The “Archie Halloween Spectacular” & More
Well, maybe it’s just growing up that can be scary at times.
Depending upon what you’re reading (or watching these days!) and between boyfriends and girlfriends, bullies and gossipers, teachers and principals, moms and dads, and all sorts of mischief by friends – Riverdale, home to Archie and his pals, can be a pretty scary place (especially in October!)…but it’s also a pretty interesting and fun place to visit alongside your best fictional pals!
The adventures of Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead and all the others continue in amazing popularity with kids and adults – over seventy five years after they first saw publication, way back in 1941!
And, keeping up with trends and interests of a twenty-first century fan-base, Archie, like us at Biff Bam Pop!, loves the Halloween season.
Continuing with our month-long 31 Days of Horror theme, that’s why this particular column is focusing on Archie Comics today…and their release of the Archie Halloween Spectacular #1!
This past week Life with Archie #36 came out, and if you’ve been paying attention to various news outlets, and the comics press for the last few months, you know it’s the death of Archie Andrews. But that’s not the end of it, it’s not even the tip of the iceberg. We’ll get a bit of background, and learn all about life and death with Archie, after the jump.
The science fiction genre teaches you many things, but if there’s one specific lesson it reminds you of again and again, it’s that time is circular. Whether it’s a memorable episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation or a great read by Phillip K. Dick, events, we’re told, are meant to be repeated.
The same is true in comics.
Back in 1979-1980, DC Comics published the five-issue sci-fi anthology series, Time Warp. Today, the title comes back with a more sophisticated slant, courtesy of top industry writers and artists and published under the Vertigo Comics banner.
And boy! Is there a lot to look forward to here!
