‘MLB The Show 17’ Review: Small Improvements Make This Great Game Even Better

Every year when The Show comes out, I follow the same routine: Create a new player from scratch and head into Road to the Show. This year, my mountain-man bearded, 6’4″, 220-pound first baseman from Florida (you can’t select Toronto for some reason) wasn’t doing very well in the showcase games where you get scouted for the upcoming draft. Even though he looked like a bearded hulk, he couldn’t hit water if he fell out of a boat and ended up being projected to go late 2nd/early 3rd round. I wasn’t happy about it, but ended up being drafted late by the Houston Astros. Then something happened. Read the rest of this entry

The New “Blair Witch” Movie Goes Back to the Original’s Roots – Literally

Whether you like The Blair Witch Project or not, there’s no denying that it changed horror cinema forever. Capitalizing on the burgeoning power of the Internet, it helped to not only usher in nearly two decades of found footage films in horror, but also predicted the rise of viral marketing.

31 Days of Horror 2014 – Underworld (2003)

Underworld Movie“I am a Death Dealer.” – Selene

Even though I’m a fan of pretty much all of the genres that exist within the Horror category, the ‘monster movie’ will forever be my favorite. I use the term ‘monster’ to define anything that’s non-human.

It started in my childhood with classics like “Gremlins” and “Ghostbusters”, and continues to this day with what has developed into one of the most entertaining ‘monster’ franchises, “Underworld”.

31 Days Of Horror 2013: Curse of Chucky Reviewed

Eight years after the bizarre and somewhat tired Seed of Chucky, creator Don Mancini delivers the sixth entry in the Child’s Play franchise. The film picks up in the present day and seems to ignore the last two entries (more on that later). The Chucky doll arrives at the house where the paraplegic Nica (played by Fiona Dourif) lives with her mother Sarah. Sarah’s death at the hands of Chucky is seemingly a suicide and the rest of Nica’s family shows up to make funeral arrangements. What follows is Chucky’s signature brand of chaos, as well as a deepening backstory.

Paranormal Activity Claims Number One, Alex Cross Flops – Biff Bam Pop’s Weekend Box Office Wrap-Up Report

Another October, another Paranormal Activity film in theatres. While the fourth instalment managed to grab the number one spot, it’s clear that the franchise is wearing thin on audiences. Meanwhile, a dramatic turn from Tyler Perry fell flat. Here’s how the weekend went down.

Paranormal Activity 4 PosterIt’s no surprise that Paranormal Activity 4 claimed the top spot at the box office with $30 million. Normally, you’d consider that a great showing, and the film has already made back its $5 million budget so it’s all profit from here. However, this number is a far cry from last year’s third release, which opened with $52 million. So yes, there’s still money to be made, and we’ll likely see a fifth film next year, but the studio should start preparing a new Halloween horror franchise.

Find out how the rest of the weekend went down after the jump!

Paranormal Activity 4 vs Alex Cross – Biff Bam Pop’s Weekend Box Office Predictions

There should be a lot of activity at the box office this weekend, as the fourth instalment in a horror franchise is unleashed upon a suspecting public. Meanwhile, a box office draw makes his debut as a popular detective. Here’s how the weekend could turn out:

As advertised, Paranormal Activity 4 is the latest in the series that continues to scare up huge business every fall at the box office. But every horror franchise has to fall at some point, and with middling reviews I’m guessing that PA4 is going to begin the law of of diminishing returns. Eventually. However, this weekend the franchise is bulletproof and should have a healthy gross. Look for a first place finishing with $45 million.

Find out how the rest of the top five will shape out after the jump!

Evil Reigns Again – Resident Evil: Retribution Reviewed

No one can argue with the fact that we all want to see Milla Jovovich and Michelle Rodriguez in tight black leather, killing things. Going into number five of the Resident Evil franchise we all know that’s what we’re going to get and we’re happy when we get it. The only problem is that when you’ve reached number five in your cash-cow string of action flicks, we’ve pretty much seen the best of everything you have to offer.

Is there anything good about Resident Evil: Retribution? Find out after the jump!

A Hell Of An Arc – Andy Burns On BOOM! Studios Hellraiser Volume 1

A few months back I reviewed the first issue of the new Hellraiser series from BOOM! Studios, written by the one and only Clive Barker (with help from Christopher Monfette). At the time, I was impressed with where the series was starting from and where it could be heading (check out the review here). Today sees the release of the first four issues (along with issue 0) of the series in trade paperback. If there was any reason you might have been waiting on catching up on the new exploits of Pinhead, I’d say this collection is the perfect time to start reading.
