BBP! Guide To Fan Expo Canada 2017: Day 3 #FXC17

Two days of Fan Expo Canada have passed, and you’ve been a good little pop culture soldier.

Perhaps you’ve got a full weekend pass. Perhaps this is your first day in line. Either way, today is giant-sized Saturday – and the Metropolitan Convention Centre kicks it up into its highest gear today!

Certainly the busiest day of the four day convention, Saturday, Day 3 of Fan Expo Canada, offers up a whole host of challenges and opportunities. Your adrenaline, for one, will be coursing through your body like you’ve never experienced. But you’ll need to be a pro, and temper that enthusiasm with the knowledge that you’ll most likely be in some long lines. It’s a natural occurrence and the real test is how you can deal with that pressure.

Pro Tip: go to the bathroom early. 10 AM to 7 PM makes for a long day.

Still, it’s all worth it, as you’re bound to bump into friends you know, and the exhibitors start talking with an aim to sell product. Some of the biggest programming events are today as well – and you can find all of them here in Day 3 of Biff Bam Pop’s Guide to Fan Expo Canada!

BBP! Fan Expo Canada: Day 4 Guide (Sunday)

Fan Expo CanadaToday is the last day of the 2016 version of Fan Expo Canada. Hopefully your body has held up because there’s still a lot to do today.

With it being a long weekend, many have set aside this day to bring their kids. And of course, the cos-players are still out in full effect at the convention, and those that thought they had enough yesterday are coming back today because they’ve realized that do want that one last thing, after all.

That makes Sunday, the fourth day, a pretty busy day inside the hallways and room of the Metropolitan Convention Centre.

Me? I’ve done my scouting over the last few days. And now I’m looking to hit some of the vintage vendors for some old time comics and graphic novels. Things that tickle my fancy, things to add to my collection.

So, from 10 AM to 5 PM today, here’s what Biff Bam Pop! thinks you should be checking out on Fan Expo Canada Day 4:

All The Pop Culture Was Found At TORONTO COMICON 2016

Han Solo Frozen in CarboniteSunday, March 20th – the first day of Spring.

And with the spring melteth the carbonite.

Yes!

Superheroes, Star Wars and Ghostbusters. Manga, Anime and Master Chief. Longboxes, movie posters and original art. Everything that was, is and will be pop culture this year, reared itself up from a mighty winter slumber, yawned, and stretched its way out of bed, gathering with a like-minded niche in downtown Toronto.

And all dressed in cosplay, of course!

The 2016 edition of the TORONTO COMICON ran from March 18 through to the 20th this past weekend at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, waving an important hand high in the North American pop culture landscape – successfully ushering in this year’s Con season!

It’s Gotta Be We Stand On Guard #1 For Thee On The Wednesday Run

WeStandOnGuard1There’s nothing quite like sharing a little bit of patriotism on a comic book Wednesday.

If you’re seeing all things maple leaf red or the word “eh?” keeps coming up in your Facebook or your Twitter stream today, it’s because today, July 1, is Canada Day!

Canada Day! The national holiday of this columnist’s nation, celebrating the 1867 birth of the greatest hockey-playing, maple-syrup loving, beaver adoring, arctic-solidifying, rainbow-coloured monied, Mountied, health-cared country in the world!

Of course, some of those might not be real words, but any British, Russian, Brazilian or Korean citizen – or any other citizen from any other country – can easily get the drift: today, July the 1st is our day.

Why not spend it protecting our nations’ borders from our southern neighbours?

Wait. What?

You heard me right. Follow me after the jump for the eagerly anticipated scoop on We Stand On Guard #1.

Got That Swing: Bang Bang Baby and Songs She Wrote About People She Knows

The super-stylized Bang Bang Baby follows Stepphy (Jane Levy) and her dreams of musical escape

Finding new talent is a thrill, that delectable shock when you hit on something that speeds your pulse and your synapses and says, “Hey, bet you’ve never seen it done quite like this before.” Getting that thrill is what the Discovery Programme at the Toronto International Film Festival is all about. It’s a showcase of forty films featuring the best new directors from around the world. There’s a bunch of Canadian films in the Discovery Programme, cuz hey there’s nothing wrong with a homer. Two of them happen to have a lot in common. Both Bang Bang Baby and Songs She Wrote About People She Knows are musicals with a hesitant lead finding her way to her dreams. Now those dreams are pesky things, and they never quite turn out the way you expect.

Fan Expo Canada 2012 Preview

fan expo 2012Fan Expo 2012
is about to hit Toronto and for the weekend of August 23-26th, nerds will rule. This marks the 18th year of Fan Expo and probably the 3 or 4th time I’ve attended… going to comics, sci fi, horror, anime, gaming conferences steels you against the extremes of fandom.

I expect this to be another crazy, cosplay filled, celebrity spotting type of conference; certainly nothing out of the ordinary for Fan Expo.

For a quick look at what’s in store and schedule hilights, read on.
