Breaking Dawn Holds Ground – Biff Bam Pop’s Weekend Box Office Wrap-Up Report

The American Thanksgiving weekend proved a good one at the box office, as all the expected big films managed to bring audiences to theatres in droves. Here how things went down.

Though down a huge 69%, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part Two was still number one at the box office, bringing in $43 million. Since its release last week, the film has grossed $226 million and should come close to crossing the $300 million mark before the end of its run.

Find out how the rest of the weekend turned out after the jump!
Debuting in fourth place was Rise Of The Guardians with $24 million, definitely off from our original prediction and a clear indicator that families weren’t interested in seeing this team-up flick. This number doesn’t bode well at all for the film, which has a long ways to go to try to make its budget of $145 in North America.

A surprise debut in fifth place in Life of Pi, the well-reviewed 3D film directed by Ang Lee and based on the award-winning novel by Yann Martel. The film brought in $22 million, and like Rise of The Guardians, will have to rely on word of mouth to hit its own budget of $120 million. However, I think Life Of Pi could have legs over the holiday season and could be in Oscar contention.

As for the rest of the top five, Skyfall hit second place $36 million, just 12% from its total last weekend. The film is now the biggest in Bond history, having grossed $221 million so far. Meanwhile, Lincoln was up 18% this weekend, coming in third with a $25 million.

So, to recap, here were our predictions:

1) The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 – $50 million
2) Rise Of The Guardians – $35 million
3) Skyfall – $34 million
4) Lincoln – $17 million
5) Wreck-It Ralph – $16.5 million
