The Marvel Animated Universe as presented on the Disney XD network has been focused on four different series, sometimes connected, and sometimes not, but now, with a series of shorts, they’re beginning to fill in continuity gaps and spaces between seasons. Meet me after the jump as I look at how Disney XD is expanding the Marvel Animated Universe, and a sneak peek at what’s to come.
This week in Heroes and Villains our selection of new Marvel Comics includes two superhero teams, one elder and one younger, a major villain of a completely different universe, Star Wars, and the best and most fun new super-heroine of the year so far. Meet me after the jump for my thoughts on Avengers #4, Champions #5, Darth Maul #1, and The Unstoppable Wasp #2!
As Avengers: Ultron Revolution seeks to stack the deck with new characters to replace the Avengers when the originals go missing in next season’s Secret Wars, this week we check in on an old friend and former Avenger, Ant-Man, as he tries to make it big in Hollywood. Meet me after the jump for my thoughts on this week’s episode.
We’ve all heard the hype about Marvel Comics next big event, a sequel to the acclaimed mini-series that inspired the biggest movie of the year so far, yeah, I’m talking about Marvel’s Civil War II. This weekend the world will be introduced to the Ant-Man of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but before you hit the theaters, do you know what the origins of the comic book version are? How many Ant-Men have there been, and who’s who? He’s my favorite Avenger, so I’m volunteering to give you all the scoop, unbiased, or at least mostly. Learn all about this original Stan Lee Silver Age superhero, after the jump, with Biff Bam Pop’s Ant-Man primer.
We all know that the Squadron Supreme is a twisted alternate dimension version of the Justice League in the Marvel Universe that has frequently crossed paths with the Avengers. So far on “Avengers Assemble” our heroes have faced off against counterparts of Superman, Batman, and the Flash. This week it’s Green Lantern’s turn. Meet me after the jump for my thoughts on “Spectrums.”
Avengers: Age of Ultron opens tonight across America, and has been out in most of the world for a week now. Not only the Avengers, but also their adversary Ultron, are everywhere, but what do we really know about Ultron? Who is he, what is he? When the Circus of Crime is in town, the Avengers learn a bit more about their comrade Hawkeye than they knew before, or do they? Apparently the SHIELD marksman has a dark past in the colorful world of “Crime and Circuses.” Check out my review of the newest episode of “Avengers Assemble” after the jump.
Reading the synopsis of this week’s “Marvel’s Avengers Assemble,” it seems we’re veering into sitcom territory, and very dangerously into jump-the-shark area as well. It reads as follows: “Falcon learns that his mom is coming to visit, but she doesn’t know that he is an Avenger.” Wasn’t this on “I Love Lucy” or “The Honeymooners”? It’s not all bad though, this episode also has Ant-Man! Meet me after the jump for my review of “One Little Thing.”
