This week in Heroes and Villains our selection of new Marvel Comics includes a grounded space hero, a legacy hero with a familiar name, new origins for an old hero, and one of my absolute favorite super-heroines who is one of Marvel’s oldest. Meet me after the jump for my thoughts on Star-Lord #3, Invincible Iron Man #4, Daredevil #17, and Patsy Walker, A.K.A. Hellcat! #15…
It’s Halloween (yes, in April) on “Avengers: Ultron Revolution,” and Doctor Strange drops by to ask Earth’s mightiest heroes for help against his archenemy the dread Dormammu. Get ready for sorcery supreme and meet me after the jump for my thoughts on “Into the Dark Dimension.”
The details are coming in on the big Marvel Comics crossover event featuring the Avengers this spring – AVENGERS STANDOFF: ASSAULT ON PLEASANT HILL ALPHA – and it’s a lot bigger and more exciting than we thought. More details and a special sneak preview are after the jump, check it out!
It’s been lauded.
It’s been editorialized.
It’s been late.
And now? It’s finally here. The secret that wasn’t so much a secret is finally out in the open for all of us to see and read.
Follow me after the jump for all the goods on the final issue of the Marvel Universe’s magnum opus, nearly a half decade in the making:
Secret Wars #9!
New York, NY—September 14th, 2015 — This October, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are reforged, retooled and recharged for the All-New, All-Different Marvel Universe! But first, kickoff the all-new Avengers line of titles with AVENGERS #0 – featuring new stories setting the stage for six new ongoing series! Someone is watching, carefully studying the movements of the Avengers and those in their orbit. But are they friend, or foe?!
Sometimes bigger is better. And sometimes it’s really, really better. That’s the idea behind the massive, oversized collection Marvel has been releasing the last few years. Roughly the height of of IDW’s Artist Edition collections and the width of a slightly smaller Marvel Omnibus, we’ve seen Wolverine: The Adamantium Collection, X-Men: The Adamantium Collection and Marvels: The Platinum Edition Collection. I’m the proud owner of that last one, it being the fourth time I purchased the seminal Kurt Busiek/Alex Ross story (after a softcover version, a signed hardcover, and then the 10th anniversary reissue). This is literally a tome, expensive yet well worth the money.
The latest large-sizedc collection to hit well-inforced store shelves is Avengers: The Vibranium Collection, itself perfectly timed to coincide with the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron. Read the rest of this entry
That’s what happened two weeks ago in this very column, when I anxiously suggested that Avengers #44, the last issue of the acclaimed series, was the one comic book you had to run out and get!
Problem is, that issue got pushed back by Marvel Comics to…today’s date.
I still stand by that issue – and that you should make the run today to pick it up. You can read all about why you should do that right here. But today it’s joined by its sister comic book: New Avengers #33 – also the last issue of the series! You see, everything’s leading to a cataclysmic conclusion – for both our heroes and the entire Marvel universe!
Follow me after the jump for some not-so-secret but still great news!
There’s a Crisis on the horizon of near-Infinite proportions in the comics world, but not the way you might be thinking. Today Marvel Comics, represented by editors Tom Brevoort and Axel Alonzo, officially announced the end of the Marvel Universe. And it’s not just the end of the Marvel Universe proper, but also the Ultimate Universe as well, and possibly the end of Marvel Comics, as we know it. Meet me after the jump for what we now know about the new Secret Wars…
With the rising popularity of the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. television series (wha-hoo!) and the anticipation mounting for the next Avengers film, Avengers: Age of Ultron, released next year, it’s a great time to revisit that stable of characters.
Of course, it’s also a perfect time of year to do that.
For those of you looking for a stocking stuffer, follow me after the jump and I’ll tell you why Avengers NOW! #1 makes for the perfect comic to fill that sock hanging off the mantle!
On this week’s episode of “Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors,” our hero meets fan favorite heroes of the 1980s, Cloak and Dagger. Throw in the Mindless Ones, Doctor Strange, and the dread Dormammu, and you got yourself a party. Meet me after the jump for my thoughts on “Cloak and Dagger.”
