Neighbours Take Down Spider-Man – Biff Bam Pop’s Weekend Box Office Wrap-Up Report

Spider-Man, Spider-Man, does whatever a spider can…except counter bad reviews and the power of Seth Rogen. Here’s what went down at the box office this weekend.

Neighbors_(2013)_PosterExceeding all predictions, Neighbors had a simply outstanding weekend, grossing $51 million to land at the top of the box office. Even better, the film’s budget is a relatively minuscule $17 million, so this R-rated comedy is already in the black, with a ton of gravy to look forward to over the coming weeks. It will most certainly fall to the might of Godzilla next weekend, but in the meantime, Seth Rogen and company have a lot of smile about this Mother’s Day.

The same can’t be said for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which dropped 59.4% from its opening weekend to bring in $37 million. The film is suffering from bad reviews from critics and fans alike, and there’s a real possibility it won’t make it past $200 million at the North American box office. Sony has a lot to worry about, seeing as how they’ve already announced a third and fourth film in the franchise. It’s going to take a lot to bring Spidey back into the good graces of audiences at home.

As for the rest of the top five, The Other Woman was in third with $9 million, Heaven is for Real grabbed fourth place with $7 million, while Captain America: The Winter Soldier closed things out in fifth with $5.6 million.

So, to recap, here were our predictions:

1) The Amazing Spider-Man 2 – $39 million
