Movies, movies, movies! That’s what we’re talking about, of course! And it’s going to be a busy weekend at the box office, as a plethora of new releases try to unseat The Hobbit from the top of the heap. Do any stand a chance? Here are our predictions!
Jack Reacher is the brand new action film staring Tom Cruise as the title character. Created by Lee Child, Reacher novels are extremely popular, which should mean some decent returns for the flick, which has been getting solid notices thanks to Cruise’s performance. Child fans may stay away because Cruise doesn’t measure up stature wise to Reacher (he’s over 6′ in the book; Cruise is 5’7), but I think the film will still find an audience. Look for a second place showing with $18 million.
Find out how the rest of the top five may turn out after the jump!
This Is 40 is the latest film from Judd Apatow and is a pseudo-sequel to his hit flick, Knocked Up. Seth Rogan and Katherine Heigl aren’t the stars this time out – instead the focus is on married couple Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann. Together, Rudd and Mann are gold, and I’m guessing that audiences will remember that and turn out to see the movie. Look for a third place finish with $15 million.
As for the rest of the top five, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey should easily hold onto the top spot at the box office. Look for it to pull in $45 million, which will be a 50% drop from its opening weekend. Rise Of The Guardians will close things out in fifth with $8 million.
So, to recap, here are our predictions:
1) The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey – $50 million
2) Jack Reacher – $18 million
3) This Is 40 – $15 million
4) Monster In 3D – $11 million
5) Rise Of The Guardians – $8 million
