The confrontation between Marvel Comics’ two biggest franchises, and their two biggest superhero teams, was the event of the summer, and the do-not-miss maxi-series that changed the status quo of the Marvel Universe. Yes, the Avengers versus the X-Men – AvsX – was the big one this year.
If you missed it, or if you didn’t, there’s an amazing way to relive all the action you did and didn’t see, with this edition of Biff Bam Pop’s Holiday Gift Guide. We’ll check out the AvsX Hardcover Edition after the jump.
What’s It About?
The battle royale between earth’s mightiest heroes and the uncanny mutant students? Come on, man, this is a no-brainer. It’s not the first time they’ve done this dance, you can see previous clashes here.
This time, however, the Phoenix Force is coming to Earth to supposedly take over Hope Summers. The Avengers and the X-Men have philosophical issues on whether or not this should be allowed to happen. Like most simple misunderstandings in the Marvel Universe, it escalates into full-blown war.
All the fights you ever wanted to see happen in this fantastic series – Captain America vs. Cyclops, the Thing vs. Namor, Iron Man vs. Magneto, and the heartbreaking Black Panther vs. Storm – and then, once your fanboy bloodlust has been sated, things get really bad. The Phoenix possesses five of the X-Men and they not only try to fix the world, but they also go Avenger-hunting.
It’s all here, Captain America and the Avengers against Cyclops and the X-Men, Wolverine and Hope Summers both caught in the middle in their own ways, and certain doomsday on its way to Earth. When the Phoenix Five arise, it becomes a whole new ballgame, culminating in the death of a classic Marvel character.
The series has been covered fairly well here at Biff Bam Pop!; if you’d like more of a taste, check it out here.
