The only thing that was killed softly at the box office this weekend was Brad Pitt’s latest feature film. Meanwhile, the previous week’s heavy hitters are continued to do well. Here’s what went down.
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 continued to hold the number one position at the box office, bringing in $17.4 million to bring its three-week total to $254 million. This is a solid number, and the film should manage to “eclipse” Breaking Dawn Part 1‘s $281 million North American gross by the end of its run.
Find out how the rest of the weekend turned out after the jump!
Skyfall was close behind Breaking Dawn Part 2 with $17 million; Lincoln held steady in third with $13.5 million; Rise of The Guardians continues to be a massive letdown, grossing $13.5 to land in fourth spot (good luck making back that $145 million), while Ang Lee’s Life of Pi rounded things out in fifth with $12 million.
Meanwhile, Brad Pitt’s Killing Them Softly clearly didn’t resonate with audiences, even after it received stellar reviews. Perhaps it was the post-Thanksgiving doldrums, or maybe the marketing campaign just couldn’t get people into theatres. Whatever the case, the film debut outside the top five, landing at number seven with a disappointing $7 million.
