Biff Bam Pop’s Holiday Gift Guide 2013 – TV on DVD

One year I gave my Dad Breaking Bad Season One on DVD. I think it’s the best gift I’ve ever given him.

Since binge-watching has become so popular, TV on DVD is a great gift to give someone that you might be stuck on. We all have our favourite series, and since there are so many amazing shows out there, it’s impossible to watch them all. I’m sure you know some people who have been deprived of The Sopranos or The Wire. Below are three suggestions of TV on DVD that would be great gifts to give someone, but really any show that you care passionately about would be perfect to share with a loved one. We all know about Bonnie & Clyde, the notorious outlaws from the Depression era who were young, in love, and ruthless criminals. Director Bruce Beresford (Driving Miss Daisy) is taking on the task of telling their story in a four hour, two night, TV event which will be aired on three different channels simultaneously: History, Lifetime and A&E. The miniseries starring Emile Hirsch (Into The Wild) and Holliday Grainger (The Borgias) airs Sunday and Monday, and chronicles the events of their infamous crime spree in the early 1930s. Watch With Amanda’s TV Pick Of The Week: American Horror Story

I have braved my crippling fear or the horror genre by catching up on this season of American Horror Story: Coven. Luckily the creative writing, impressive acting (I’m looking at you Kathy Bates and Jessica Lange), and a damn good soundtrack has made up for any nightmares it may have caused.

My pick of the week to celebrate the forthcoming Halloween and Biff Bam Pop’s 31 Days Of Horror is American Horror Story: Coven’s fourth episode “Fearful Pranks Ensue” airing this Wednesday on FX. Check out the trailer below and read on for a brief synopsis of what witchy things we can expect this week.

Watch With Amanda’s TV Pick Of The Week: Glee

glee1

Glee’s third episode of the season which airs this Thursday at 9pm is titled “The Quarterback” and will be a tribute to Finn Hudson, the lovable football jock with the heart of gold.

Cory Monteith who played Finn Hudson during the first four seasons of the show passed away on July 13th this year at the age of 31. An autopsy revealed that the actor died of “mixed drug toxicity, involving heroin and alcohol.”

The episode was filmed about a month after Cory died, and the emotion is real. Glee co-creator Ryan Murphy recently said in an interview, “What you will see in the episode is what really happened,” Murphy said of the hour. “…those performances that you’ll see, almost everything in that episode is from the first take of every performance because the actors and the crew had a really hard time shooting it. I’ve never seen a crew that you can’t continue shooting because they’ve left the room sobbing”

Watch With Amanda’s TV Pick Of The Week: Sons Of Anarchy

Yes, Breaking Bad is done but that doesn’t mean that wonderfully written, life changing, mind blowing television goes to the grave with it. Case in point: Sons Of Anarchy.

This pick of the week was hard for me, because after last week’s episode ended, it looked like we could be saying our final goodbye to my favourite character. Who knows what this week will bring, and that’s the beauty of Sons Of Anarchy, and its creator Kurt Sutter. He isn’t afraid of or influenced by what anyone thinks, so all of these situations are coming from that messed up head of his that we love so much. If his vision includes violently murdering someone that we care for so much, he’s going to do it and not even think twice about it. Check out the trailer for Episode 4 “Wolfsangel” below and read on for some more thoughts on this week’s episode airing Tuesday night at 10pm. OBVIOUS WARNING: Major spoilers ahead if you’re not caught up.

Watch With Amanda’s TV Pick Of The Week: Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

I’m so worried for my DVR. This is the week where we all get serious. Our favourite shows are coming back, new ones are starting, things are overlapping. I have serious anxiety about what I’m going to watch, what I’m going to record and when am I going to have the time to see it all! It was really hard to pick just one show as my TV pick of the week. I chose Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. because you can’t really go wrong. People are already talking about it, you know it’s going to get the ratings, it’s based around a well-known and well-loved character, and… Joss Whedon. Check out the trailer and read on for a quick synopsis of the series and what you can expect from Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
