Every year my daughter and I discuss what’s going to make it on to her Christmas list. As she’s been getting older (she’s 6), she’s slowly found her way into playing with dolls, as most kids do. Thankfully, we live in a world where Barbie isn’t the standard anymore. For us pop culture lovin’, horror fans can at least enjoy our girls playing with Monster High.
It was a fairly magical weekend at the box office, though perhaps not up to wizarding standards. Here’s what went down:
This weekend’s number one was, unsurprisingly, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the beginning of a brand new series set in the Harry Potter world. The movie had a lot going for it, including franchise director David Yates and an original screenplay written by JK Rowling. However, perhaps the lack of recognizable characters may have been one of the reasons that the film could only muster up $76 million in its debut. While that number would be outstanding for so many films, considering the billion dollar numbers the Harry Potter movies have accumulated, the studio expected more (and to be honest, so did I). It will certainly be interesting to see how the film holds up over the coming weeks, since there are five films set to be released in this new franchise.
