Cry havoc, and unleash the dogs of war! Or something like that, as 300: Rise of An Empire hits theaters this weekend. Will it rise to the top? Here’s our prediction:
The sequel to the mega-hit 300, 300: Rise Of An Empire may not be directed by Zack Snyder, and the originals Gerard Butler may be missed, but the film carries the visual signature from the first film, which may be enough to get audiences though the door. It won’t match the original’s $71 million opening, but it should still have no problems taking the weekend. Look for a first place finish with $40 million.
Also out this weekend is Mr. Peabody and Sherman, a family friendly flick from Dreamworks that should prove to be great counterprogramming to 300: Rise Of An Empire. Look for a second place showing with $25 million.
As for the rest of the top five, Non-Stop will drop to third with $16 million. The LEGO Movie will hit fourth with $14 million, while Son of God will close things out in fifth with $13.5 million.
So, to recap, here are our predictions:
1) 300: Rise Of An Empire – $40 million
2) Mr. Peabody & Sherman – $25 million
3) Non-Stop – $16 million
4) The LEGO Movie – $14 million
5) Son of God – $13.5 million
Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the weekend turns out!
