You’ll be staring at a lot of stars and cosplayers at Fan Expo Canada 2018 today – so keep your head on a swivel and watch that you don’t trample any little “poppers” that might sneak across your path!
Open from 10 AM to 7 PM today at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Fan Expo Canada 2018 is going to be full of pop culture enthusiasts today. It ramps up in attendance from Thursday to Sunday, and, depending upon your list of interest, like a “Choose Your Own Adventure” book, you can go in any number of directions.
Whether you spend the day hopping from panel to panel, or from kiosk to kiosk, or from artist to artist, you’ll be busy.
Because of the longer hours today, Friday makes for a good day to ask for a commission in Artist’s Alley (because the artists may still have some space available to get yours done before the end of the weekend), as well as shop.
If you’re a comic book collector, it’s a good bet to check out those hardcover omnibus book prices at different kiosks – you’ll generally find them a bit cheaper here than in a bookstore. And of course, there’s t-shirts for babies, kids, youth and adults of all ages!
Importantly, here’s where you can get your floorplan.
Today’s Schedule of Cool Things:
There are plenty of things to do again today…here’s a hand-picked list of just some of them. Here’s where you can find a list of the entire schedule of events for today – it’s a long one!
10.00 AM – Retro Video Game Arcade (Room 201BDF)
Available form open until closing time, every day of Fan Expo, I figure you might have a bit more time on your hands today, so this visit is a must! I remember this fond memory…from last year – and it’s back! All hail the high score! Whether you’re a Ms. Pac-Man fan or a Galaga aficionado, fill your pockets with quarters and head to the old-school arcade. But make it a 21st century enedeavour and bring some hand sanitizer wipes with you!
11.00 AM – Creator Spotlight On Tom King (Room 716B)
Here’s a spotlight on fan and critic favourite comic book writer, Tom King (Batman, Sheriff of Babylon, Mister Miracle, Vision). He recently very nearly had Batman married, and he’s in the process of handing over a newborn baby to Darkseid! This talk will be a fascinating and revealing look inside the raison d’etra of a writer who is crafting some of the most compelling stories – in any genre right now!
11.00 AM – The 50th Anniversary of 2001: A Space Odyssey With Stars Keir Dullea & Gary Lockwood (Room 206B)
One of the greats science fiction films of all time is celebrating it’s 50th year – still relevant, and still with an enormous fan base. From the stars, Dullea and Lockwood, expect stories regarding production, the film’s legacy and the work of famed Director, Stanley Kubrick!
3.30 PM – Things You Wished You Knew About Board Game Design Before You Started (Room 705)
There are a bunch of board game design seminars throughout the day today and this is one of them! If you’re looking for advice or best practice on how to make that board game you’ve been thinking about for the last few years, it all really starts here!
5.00 PM – Indie Comics Creators Roundtable (Room 701A)
Everyone starts somewhere. And when we talk about “indie” creators, that word doesn’t necessarily mean “unknown”. Here’s a round-table panel with a bunch of comic book professionals who love what they do and how they go about doing it – outside of the mainstream. Find out what that means!
7.00 PM – An Evening With The Cast of Back To The Future (Room 106)
Greta Scott! Here’s where you need to be tonight! Buy your ticket here.
9.00 PM – Back To The Future’s Enchantment Under The Sea (Offsite)
This event is happening offsite at Remix Lounge (1305 Dundas St. West) on Friday, August 31 at 9.00 PM. Buy your ticket here.
