“Humor is the great thing, the saving thing. The minute it crops up, all our irritation and resentments slip away, and a sunny spirit takes their place.” – Mark Twain
And that folks, is why I love The Minions (the true stars of both Despicable Me 1 & 2). I could literally be fired from my job, have my house burn down and watch the Miami Heat win the NBA Championship (all catastrophic events from my point of view), but one YouTube clip of these guys and you’d see my frown turn upside down. More on The Minions after the jump.
The Minions were my favorite part of the first Despicable Me movie, and in the second film they literally had me rolling on the couch laughing uncontrollably. I re-lived this joyous experience again while writing this post and watching various YouTube clips (my wife had to leave our home office out of fear that she would lose all respect for me as I sat there watching cartoons and howling like a hyena).
The following clip (“Fire Alarm” scene) offers up the perfect example of ‘Minion humor’:
Now, if you weren’t in stitches by the end of this clip, it’s okay. I’ve seen this condition before and it is treatable. I personally have spent many years preparing my mind to enjoy humor like this by watching plenty of Adam Sandler movies and anything Nicholas Cage has starred in over the last 10-15 years (ouch!).
The thing I love about the Minions is that they speak their own language and their antics are completely ridiculous. Here’s another one of my favorite clips (a tribute to my 90’s youth):
If you didn’t understand every lyric in that clip, don’t worry. Watch it again a couple of dozen times and eventually you’ll get it (just make sure your speakers are turned down if you’re viewing at work;)
I’m fairly certain that everyone’s lives would be better if they just pinned a picture of the Minions (see above pic) to their bathroom mirror and before jumping into their morning shower asked themselves: “If I were a minion, what would I do today?”
(Warning: this might not actually be the best tactic if you’re trying to maintain a serious relationship or pursue a career…it’s really just a theory at this point…)
Are you a minion fan? Do I have you convinced yet? Here’s one more clip that will surely put a smile on your face:
Ah Hah! You’ve converted, haven’t you? Life from this point forward will never be the same. All it will take is a picture like this…
And your day will become bright and cheery! See you at the theater when The Minions movie comes out in July 2015!
