It was a huge weekend for Marvel Studios, as they scored yet another massive success with Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Here’s what went down:
With a gross of $96 million, Captain America: The Winter Solider performed exceptionally well, breaking the April record for largest opening weekend while also making more than the original film and last fall’s Thor: The Dark World. The reviews have been outstanding, with the film moving outside of the typically super hero storytelling to create a simply outstanding spy film. Look for this one to pass the $200 million mark in North America.
As for the rest of the top five, Noah was in second place with $17 million. Divergent hit third place with $13 million, God’s Not Dead grabbed fourth place with $7.7 million, while The Grand Budapest Hotel closed things out in fifth place with $6.3 million.
So, to recap, here were our predictions:
1) Captain America: The Winter Soldier – $101 million
2) Noah – $22 million
3) Divergent – $15 million
4) Muppets Most Wanted – $6 million
5) God’s Not Dead – $5 million
