Raising a four-and-a-half-year-old sure does have some great pop-culture upside.
Besides revisiting my fave comic book characters via his (and, let’s face it my) collection of superhero figurines (the awesome Fisher-Price DC Imaginext line, by the way), and looking at (but never touching, not at his current age) my most beloved comics book issues and collections (Batman, Star Trek and, crazy enough, even certain pages and panels from Swamp Thing), there’s the viewing of the all-time greatest cartoons from when I was a kid. Shows like Looney Toons, The Muppet Show, Gummi Bears, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, and a small taste of ThunderCats and Star Blazers. The latter two offerings being a prelude and promise to a half decade of time into his future.
Over the last week, I started talking to him about Scooby Doo, Where Are You? – the one cartoon that would stop me in tracks. Ghosts, ghouls, phantoms, specters and scooby-snacks! Without having seen an episode, let along the opening credit scene, it’s now theoretically his favourite show. He’s talking about it relentlessly right now. And he might just get the boxed set of Blu-Rays for Valentine’s Day.
Anyway, it’s a funny, strange and mysterious old world, isn’t it? Start thinking about one thing that gives you an itch, and the sentient ether of existence deftly reaches out and gives you a well-placed scratch.
It you were ever a lover of the Mystery Machine and the Scooby gang, today sees the release of a scratch for your personal supernatural itch.
Specter Inspectors is a chilling and fun five-issue miniseries featuring evocative and spooky art by Kaitlyn Musto and Bowen McCurdy (The Long Way Home). It’s the story of four pals: the true believer, the little brother, the credulous cameraman and the skeptic. They’re bunch of meddling kids if there ever was one! Investigating one of the most haunted towns in all of haunted America, they’re hoping to reveal that ghosts really do exist. And as unnerving fate could only allow, they’ll come up against the town’s ancient and sinister secrets.
Oh, yeah. This’ll trend!
