An Infinite Wait Ends With Infinity #1 On The Wednesday Run–August 14, 2013

Outer space, we’re told, has no boundaries. It goes on and on with uncountable moons, stars, nebulae and things we have yet to perceive plaintively trying to fill it. Time is that way too, endless, especially on Wednesday mornings when waiting for the local comic book shop to open at 11 a.m.

Tie those two together, space and time, and you begin to understand the vast scope of the year-long wait for a space-faring epic adventure, by an acclaimed writer firing on all cylinders, featuring some of the greatest superheroes mankind has ever known!

Of course, there’s one other boundless and important element that comes to mind when speaking of this narrative: evil. Sheer, unadulterated evil.

Finally released today, the new summer blockbuster, world-shattering, dimension-blowing, epic mini-series from Marvel Comics, aptly titled Infinity, has all of your infinite essentials in spades!

Over the last year, Jonathan Hickman has been writing the exploits of earth’s mightiest heroes within the pages of Avengers. There, the likes of Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Wonder Man and Captain Marvel have been investigating and then battling an outer space threat to this world.

Simultaneously, Hickman has also been writing New Avengers, where the illuminati hero-force of Mr. Fantastic, Iron Man, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Namor the Sub Mariner and others have been secretly defending this universe from annihilation at the hands of a mysterious power.

Within the pages of the six-issue miniseries, Infinity, these two distinct, yet intersecting storylines, will coalesce into the greatest threat the Marvel Universe has ever experienced!

I know what you’re saying: I’ve heard that before. And, sure. You have. If you read comics published by Marvel or DC, you pretty much hear it every summer when the two companies release their blockbuster crossover storylines. But Infinity, under the hand of the accomplished Jonathan Hickman, has been slowly raising its own temperature each month within the confines of Avengers and New Avengers. Over the last year, those two series’ have been some of the most fun reading I’ve ever had in my long history of reading comic books: sci-fi, action, adventure, heightened threats, hard choices and heroics. That’s what has kept me reading – not to mention the fantastic art from a plethora of illustrators.

Now, in the oversized Infinity #1, Hickman will give us the story he’s been planning all along: a battle for space and time itself, both here on earth and in the far reaches of our universe. It’s a war that, with the return of the mad Titan named Thanos, will change our view of the Marvel Universe irrevocably.

If you love super-heroes or science fiction or adventure stories, you need to make the run to your local comic book shop today and pick up Infinity #1.
