From a sexy and titillating cult character to a globally renown pop culture figure, it feels as if Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, has always been with us.
Created and portrayed by the beautiful Cassandra Gay Peterson as the sexy goth-inspired satirical hostess of a horror themed television series in the early 1980s, over the years Elvira would become an important and indispensable part of pop culture. From television to film to video games and comic books and everything in-between, horror and Elvira go hand-in-black-vampiric-gown.
Naughty and nice, titillation and frights are what Elvira is all about.
Comic books and Elvira aren’t anything new. If you’re of a certain age, you might remember Elvira being the feature star in a few DC Comics mainstream publications in the mid-to-late 1980s where she was the host of Elvira’s House of Mystery and even met Santa Clause in Elvira’s Haunted Holiday Special!
With a fervent fan base chomping at the bit, Dynamite Entertainment has been releasing Elvira-starring comic books for a number of years. Within those pages, she’s crossed paths with and gone on horror-tinged adventures with a host of both famous infamous monsters of fiction and film and horror aficionados including Vlad the Impaler/Dracula and even Vincent Price, all with her tongue-in-cheek satirical sense of humour and sometimes acerbic wit!

In the first issue of a new miniseries, today Elvira finally crosses paths with the famed architect of weird, cosmic horror in Elvira Meets H.P. Lovecraft #1!
Again published by Dynamite Entertainment and written by longtime Elvira comic book scribe David Avallone (Elvira In Horrorland, Elvira: The Shape of Elvira, Elvira: Mistress of the Dark, Elvira Meets Vincent Price, Bettie Page: Unbound) and illustrated by Kewber Baal (Elvira in Horrorland, Vampirella), Elvira Meets H.P. Lovecraft may be the most thrilling adventure of the hauntingly beautiful hostess!
In Elvia Meets H.P. Lovecraft, the titular protagonist finds herself emersed in the world of old gods and the weird colour out of space amongst other horrific imaginings. She’s accepted the proverbial “Call of Cthulhu” and is on a quest alongside the ghost of Lovecraft to find the last, lost copy, of the Necronomicon.
Amidst the madness and horror, the two characters make for a riotous partnership, what with the overtly sexual Elvira and the overtly closeted Lovecraft! The tentacles of evil on hot on their heels and look to ensnare the dark Mistress before she saves the world from cosmic doom!
If you’re a fan of Elvira or Lovecraft’s weird horror creations, you’re going to love this miniseries.
