Toy Story 4 held on to the top spot at the box office this weekend, showing there’s a lot of life left in Buzz, Woody, and the gang.
The movie brought in an estimated $54 million in its second weekend in release, raising its total to $234 million, an already excellent haul. The next big mark for Toy Story 4 should be $300 million, which will come within the next week or ten days.
New in second place was Annabelle Comes Home, the third film in The Conjuring spin-off franchise, with $19.5 million. It’s an ok but not a great number, and it will be interesting to see what happens next year when the third proper Conjuring film arrives next year. Is this another franchise that is on its last legs?
As for the rest of the top five, Yesterday debuted in third place with $16.5 million, a solid start for a smaller film in an arena surrounded by blockbusters. Disney’s Aladdin was in fourth place with $9.2 million, while The Secret Life of Pets 2 closed things out in fifth place with $6.6 million.
