‘Marvel Studio’s Captain Marvel’ To Soar Into Theatres This Weekend

This weekend is all about HER story; her being Captain Marvel, the most powerful hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, who is finally making her big screen debut.

Though formerly a B-level character in Marvel comics, the past decade has seen Carol Danvers’ profile raised across various books, as she was a core Avengers character, while also top-lining her own critically acclaimed titles. Now, Brie Larson brings Captain Marvel to life in the first Marvel movie to feature a female lead. Anticipation is extremely high; this is a Marvel film, after all. It is also a tie-in between 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War and next month’s Avengers: Endgame. The film is currently 82% fresh at Rotten Tomatoes, and is certainly going to top the box office. With its Friday release timed with International Woman’s Day, and Brie Larson’s outspoken and empowering feminist stance on display, Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel should reach a huge audience this weekend. Look for a first place debut with $160 million.

As for the rest of the top five, How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World will drop to second place with $18 million. Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral will be in third place with $12 million. The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part will be in fourth place with $4 million, while Alita: Battle Angel will close things out in fifth place with $3.5 million.
