Will Audiences Seek Refuge in ‘Escape Room’ This Weekend?

Happy 2019! It’s the first weekend of the new year, and with it comes only one new release at the box office that audiences can escape to.

Escape Room is a PG-13 horror film that follows a group of strangers making their way through a series of increasingly deadly rooms. Sounds like a take on Saw, without the body modification. It’s not much, but for audiences who have already soaked up the big holiday flicks, Escape Room is their one and only choice. Look for a fourth place debut with $12 million.

As for the rest of the top five, Aquaman should have no trouble holding on to the top spot at the box office. Look for it to bring in $30 million. Mary Poppins Returns will be in second place with $22 million. Spider-Man: Into The Spider Verse will be in third place with $12.5 million, while Bumblebee will close things out in fifth place with $11 million.

So, to recap, here are our predictions:

1) Aquaman – $30 million
2) Mary Poppins Returns – $22 million
3) Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse – $12.5 million
4) Escape Room – $12 million
5) Bumblebee – $11 million

Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the weekend turns out!
