November is here, and the year feels like it’s flying by! This week’s instalment of What’s Going On delivers a little bit of everything, from exciting new discoveries to familiar favourites rocking hard. Slow down and get into these tracks. As always, if you dig what you hear, follow and stream these artists.
The Chats – Australian punk rockers The Chats caught my attention this week with “Off It,” the latest single from their forthcoming new album Half Cut. Clocking in at just over 2 minutes, the track has got all the attitude and big riffs that you could want. Recorded in Los Angeles with Frenzal Rhomb’s Jay Whalley, the new album is said to find the Sunshine Coast rebels expanding their sound without losing their distinctly Aussie bite. Look for Half Cut to drop sometime in March 2027.

X Ambassadors – Multi-platinum alt-rockers X Ambassadors are back with “Y.O.T.H.” (Year Of The Horse), their first new music since 2024’s Townie. Newly signed to FLG Records, the band gets introspective on the new track that explores new beginnings, including fatherhood and a fresh record deal. With soaring melodies and their signature emotional intensity, X Ambassadors prove growing up doesn’t mean aging out of rock and roll.

John Roberts – Emmy-nominated actor and recording artist John Roberts is paying tribute to his downtown queer nightlife roots on “Complicated,” the latest preview of his forthcoming album I Am. The darkly seductive track captures the intoxicating thrill of chasing connection after hours. Its accompanying video pays homage to queer underground cinema and vintage horror, delivering a deliciously twisted visual world. Linda Belcher by day and churning out sexy club bangers by night? We’re here for it.

Ebril – There’s a hot new voice in Canadian pop, and it’s none other than Canadian-Iraqi alt-pop phenom Ebril. Her new single “Reckless Attitude” sees the singer embracing the beautiful chaos of falling headfirst into life and love. Following the runaway success of “Stranger In You,” the Toronto-based artist continues carving out her own unique sonic lane, blending playful spontaneity with emotional vulnerability. You’ll be hearing a lot more from Ebril soon!

Nettspend – Viral Virginia rap sensation Nettspend dropped his latest project just in time for spooky season. Virginia Creeper is the new six-track EP that finds the 19-year-old pushing the boundaries of his sound and getting experimental. Full of eerie synths and big distorted beats, the project celebrates his meteoric rise while paying tribute to fallen friend BloodHound Q50. We could all use a friend like Nettspend. If you aren’t already part of his rabid fanbase, get on board as he’s one of rap’s most unpredictable young stars on the rise.
