‘The Nun’ Will Fly to the Top of the Box Office This Weekend

While the film world’s eyes are all on the Toronto International Film Festival, there are still box office returns to be predicted this weekend, though The Nun is the only film that has a prayer of hitting the top.

The Nun is the latest instalment in the world of The Conjuring, a horror series that has also paid dividends with both the original films, along with the Annabelle offshoots. Directed by Corin Hardy from a story by franchise wunderkind James Wan, the film stars Bonnie Aarons as the title character who first appeared in The Conjuring 2. Reviews have been so-so for The Nun, but with its connections to what’s arguably the hottest horror franchise going, the film should have no problem locking up the number one spot at the box office this weekend with $33 million.

Also out this weekend is Peppermint, a Death Wish-style revenge film starring Jennifer Garner. This film has also been getting poor reviews, and Garner’s star power will probably not be enough to get audiences into theatres. Look for a third place debut with $12 million.

As for the rest of the top five, Crazy Rich Asians will be in second place with $15 million. The Meg will be in fourth place with $5 million, while Mission: Impossible – Fallout will close things out in fifth with $4.5 million.

So, to recap, here are our predictions:

1) The Nun – $33 million
2) Crazy Rich Asians – $15 million
3) Peppermint – $12 million
4) The Meg – $5 million
5) Mission: Impossible – Fallout – $4.5 million

Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the weekend turns out!
