Is this the weekend the King is knocked off his thrown? Here’s our prediction:
There are a few new releases hitting theatres this weekend – the first is A Wrinkle in Time, the star-studded Ava Duvernay-directed adaption of Madeline L’Engle’s classic kids story. Hype has been large for this big budget film (having Oprah hasn’t hurt it), and it’s being presented as a grandiose spectacle. Will it have enough juice to claim the top spot? It’s going to be tight, but look for A Wrinkle in Time to hit number one with $43 million.
Also out this weekend is The Strangers: Prey At Night, a sequel ten years in the making. While the original is now considered a home invasion classic, a decade between films is going to hurt this one’s chances, at least in theatres. Look for a third place debut with $11 million.
As for the rest of the top five, Black Panther will give up the crown and drop to second place with $40 million. Red Sparrow will fall to fourth with $8 million, while Death Wish will close things off in fifth place with $6 million.
So, to recap, here are our predictions:
1) A Wrinkle in Time – $43 million
2) Black Panther – $41 million
3) The Stranger: Prey at Night – $11 million
4) Red Sparrow – $8 million
5) Death Wish – $6 million
Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the weekend turns out!
