‘Black Panther’ Looks for $100M+ in Second Weekend, Should Hold Off ‘Game Night’, ‘Annihilation’

Pity the two new films that go up against Black Panther this weekend at the box office. Will either of them make an impact? Here are our predictions.

Game Night is a new comedy starring the team of Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams. Both of them have the chops, especially Bateman, who excels these days in comedies, but neither of them have the brand names that help a film open large. Throw in the Black Panther factor, and Game Night is going to have to settle for a very distant second place with $18 million.

While Annihilation stars Natalie Portman and is directed by Alex Garland fresh off of the stellar Ex Machina, this film will definitely feel the bite of Black Panther this weekend. Look for a third place showing for Annihilation with $12 million.

As for the rest of the top five, there’s no question that Black Panther will remain in the top spot, and there’s a strong change that the film will have a $100 million+ weekend. We’re going high, with a prediction of $105 million. Peter Rabbit will be fourth with $10 million, and Fifty Shades Freed will close things out in fifth place with $6 million.

So, to recap, here are our predictions:

1) Black Panther – $105 million
2) Game Night – $18 million
3) Annihilation – $12 million
4) Peter Rabbit – $10 million
5) Fifty Shades Freed – $6 million

Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the weekend turns out!

  1. It’d be interesting to know how much of Black Panther’s sales will be from repeat viewings from here on in. 🙂
