Will Audiences Discover ‘Smurfs: The Lost Village’ This Weekend?

One new movie is looking to make The Boss Baby blue at the box office this weekend? Will it get it done? Here’s our prediction:

There’s a new animated Smurfs film hitting this weekend, titled Smurfs: The Lost Village. It’s not really connected to the previous live action/cgi films from a few years back, which is probably a good thing, as neither of those were particularly well-regarded. The big hurdle for this film’s money-making goals is, of course, last week’s surprise number one. The Boss Baby should have legs, which means family won’t be rushing to see Smurfs: The Lost Village right away. Look for a third place debut with $19.5 million.

As for the rest of the top five, The Boss Baby should be an easy number one for the second weekend in a row with $29 million. Beauty and the Beast will be right behind it in second place with $27.5 million. New release Going In Style, starring Michael Caine, Alan Arkin, Morgan Freeman and Ann Margaret will appeal to an older audience and debut in fourth place with $12 million. Power Rangers should close things out in fifth with $7.5 million.

So, to recap, here are our predictions:

1) The Boss Baby – $29 million
2) Beauty and the Beast – $27.5 million
3) Smurfs: The Lost Village – $19.5 million
4) Going In Style – $12 million
5) Power Rangers – $7.5 million

Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the weekend turns out!
