With the winter storm hitting the East Coast of the United States, along with the NFL playoffs going on, this weekend at the box office was relatively quiet. Here’s what went down:
The Revenant was number this week, bringing in an estimated $16 million. The film should continue to perform well as we’re flush in the middle of Oscar season. It’s total currently stands at $119 million.
As for the rest of the top five, Star Wars: The Force Awakens was in second place with $14.3 million. Give it another two to three weeks and the movie will no doubt hit the the mythical $900 million mark in North America.
Ride Along 2 dropped a hearty 65% and wound up in third place with $12.3 million. Meanwhile, fourth and fifth place were rounded out by two new, lackluster performing releases. The critical derided Dirty Grandpa with Robert DeNiro made $11.6 million, while The Boy closed things out with $10 million.
So, to recap, here were our predictions:
1) The Revenant – $23 million
2) Ride Along 2 – $17 million
3) Star Wars: The Force Awakens – $15 million
4) The Boy – $14 millon
5) Dirty Grandpa – $12 million
