Happy 2016, friends! It’s the first Box Office Predictions of the new year, and we’re starting off with a bang. While there are no new releases, a few 2015 films are going to continue to make an impact this weekend. Here’s our predictions:
Star Wars: The Force Awakens will definitely continue its winning ways to his weekend, as it takes aim at becoming the biggest film in North American box office history. SWTFS should easily cross the $700 million mark this weekend, and could possibly take down Avatar’s reign as well. Look for a first place showing with $102 million
Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight has moved into wide release following its 70mm Roadshow roll out, and it should definitely do well. I saw this on Boxing Day with BBP’s JP Fallavollita and David Sandford Ward, along with luminous Scott Guest, and thought the film was brilliant. The performances are outstanding, the cinematography gorgeous (as expected) and the score from Ennio Morricone memorable. Fans of Tarantino won’t be disappointed. Look for a second place showing with $27 million.
As for the rest of the top five, Daddy’s Home will be in third with $23 million. Sisters should hit fourth place with $11 million, while Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip will close things out in fifth with $10 million.
So, to recap, here are our predictions:
1) Star Wars: The Force Awakens – $102 million
2) The Hateful Eight – $27 million
3) Daddy’s Home – $23 million
4) Sisters – $11 million
5) Alvin and the Chipmunks – $10 million
Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the weekend turns out!
