Melissa McCarthy is spying on first place at the box office this weekend

Who will win this weekend at the box office? My money is on a comedy staring one of the hottest female leads out there right now. How much will she bring in? Here’s my prediction:

Spy2015_TeaserPosterMelissa McCarthy is right beside Amy Schumer as the hottest ladies in comedy right now. We’ll see how Amy does at the box office later this summer, but for this weekend, it’s all about Melissa and her latest flick, Spy. The film, her latest collaboration with directer Paul Feig has garnered stellar reviews, which is only going to help pull in audiences that already are enamored with the star, Look for a first place debut with $47 million.

Also new this weekend is Insidious: Chapter 3, which hopes to continue the upwards trend of the last film. I often wonder how horror will play during the summer – I tend to think it succeeds better in the fall and winter. Look for a third place debut with $23 million (down from the previous entries $40 million).

As for the rest of the top five, last week’s number one film, San Andreas, should fall to second place with $25 million. Entourage: The Movie, which debut this past Wednesday amidst horrible reviews, will be in fourth place with $15 million, Finally, Mad Max: Fury Road should close things out in fifth place with $9.5 million.

So, to recap, here are our predictions:

1) Spy – $47 million
2) San Andreas – $25 million
3) Insidious: Chapter 3 – $23 million
4) Entourage: The Movie – $15 million
5) Mad Max: Fury Road – $9.5 million

Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the the weekend turns out!

  1. There’s a certain sameness to the characters she plays though. She ‘s a great actor and I’d like to see something radically different next time.
