It’s a packed week for horror news this week, friends! Scream‘s Courteney Cox is back in a new horror series for Starz, Guillermo Del Toro’s star-packed Nightmare Alley is about to be unleashed upon the world, Noah Hawley’s Alien series for FX is about to kick off production, A24 released a horror-themed cookbook (?!) and a whole lot more. Courteney Cox will be returning to horror in February’s Scream, but she’ll also be leading a new horror comedy series for Starz called Shining Vale, according to Deadline. The series also stars Greg Kinnear and Mira Sorvino, and is by Divorce creator and Catastrophe star Sharon Horgan.
According to Deadline’s synopsis, the series is about “a dysfunctional family that moves from the city to a small town into a house in which terrible atrocities have taken place. But no one seems to notice except for Patricia “Pat” Phelps (Cox), who’s convinced she’s either depressed or possessed – turns out, the symptoms are exactly the same. Pat is a former “wild child” who rose to fame by writing a raunchy, drug-and-alcohol-soaked women’s empowerment novel. Now 17 years later, Pat is clean and sober but totally unfulfilled. She still hasn’t written her second novel, she can’t remember the last time she had sex with her husband, Terry (Kinnear), and her teenage kids Gaynor (Birney) and Jake (Gage) want nothing to do with her. She was a faithful wife until her one slip-up: she had a torrid affair with the hot, young handyman who came over to fix the sink while Terry was at work. In a last-ditch effort to save their marriage, she and Terry cash in all their savings and move the family move from the “crazy” of the city to a large, old house in the suburbs that has a storied past of its own. Everyone has their demons, but for Pat Phelps, they may be real.”
Shining Vale will premiere worldwide on Starz on March 6.
Noah Hawley’s (Fargo, Legion) Alien series for FX will commence shooting in Thailand in March of 2022, according to Dread Central. The series will be the first Alien movie set on Earth. Casting is still underway and while we don’t have too many details, it’s rumoured that “synthetic body swapping” will be a central theme of the series.
A24’s merch game remains strong with the upcoming release of a new horror-themed cookbook called Horror Caviar, now available for preorder. The book will feature an introduction from Ti West (The Innkeepers, The Sacrament), essays from Sohla El-Waylly, Phoebe Chen, and others, and beautiful photography by Justin J. Wee. The food and cocktail recipes are all based on classic horror films including Suspiria, Raw, Trouble Every Day, Audition, and many more. Personally, I find gelatinous foods like aspic-based desserts completely repulsive, so this book is as scary as any horror movie I’ve ever seen. Yuck!
The book is available for preorder at the A24 Shop for $65 USD, and will ship on November 30.
David Harbour (Stranger Things, Black Widow) is set to star in a new holiday-themed horror called Violent Night from filmmaker Tommy Wirkola (Dead Snow) and writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller (Sonic the Hedgehog).
Deadline reports that the film will be released theatrically on December 2, 2022 from Universal.
Shudder has a gore-soaked new horror coming to the service next month called Death Valley. the film is written and directed by Matthew Ninaber, who played the eponymous Psycho Goreman in one of 2021’s best action-horrors. The film also stars Jeremy Ninaber (Escape the Dark), Ethan Mitchell (Escape the Dark) and Kristen Kaster (If I Should Die).
In Death Valley, “When a secret experiment goes horribly wrong, bioengineer Dr. Chloe (Kaster) becomes trapped inside a secret underground facility. With only 24 hours before a fatal decontamination protocol destroys the entire lab, Chloe deploys an emergency distress signal before a terrifying creature (Matthew Ninaber) of unknown origin can consume what’s left of her.”

Dee Wallace (ET, The Howling, Critters, Cujo) is horror royalty around these parts, and according to Dread Central, the iconic actress has just joined the cast of the upcoming Incubus: New Beginnings which kicks off production next April in Texas. In writer-director Terry Aderholt’s film, “six college friends in their late thirties reunite to support one of them going through a divorce. All the characters are at crossroads in their lives and looking for a fresh start. An Incubus demon enlists the aid of two ghosts to help terrorize them as he seeks to impregnate the women and take their babies back to hell. Eubank stars as the divorcee, surrounded by her friends (Swisyzinna, Jones, Summers, Keith) as the weekend getaway turns into a fight for their souls.” Wallace will play demonologist Zura Valentine.
Krsy Fox’s I Live Alone has a brand new trailer that’s getting a ton of buzz for it’s twisted vibes. The film stars Bonnie Aarons (The Nun, Conjuring 2), Krsy Fox (Underworld Evolution, FRANK), Radek Lord (Ballers), Mark Kelly (Jakob’s Wife), Sonya Eddy (Those Who Can’t), and Fawn Irish (Insidious: Chapter 3) and Nyaling Marenah.
In I Live Alone, “Aarons plays the paranoid and reclusive Aunt Len who has chosen to live in solitude for over 40 years due to her delusions. But, Aunt Len is pushed out of her comfort zone when her estranged sixteen-year-old niece Parker (Marenah) comes to live with her. Parker realizes fairly quickly that something may be very off with her aunt as Len rants about the dangers of people in the outside world. Then, their neighbors start to go missing, and screams ascend from the basement. It doesn’t take long before Parker confesses to her boyfriend that she believes Aunt Len is a serial killer. “

Guillermo Del Toro’s star-studded Nightmare Alley releasing in December, we’ve got a hot new trailer for the film. The adaptation of William Lindsay Gresham’s 1946 novel boasts some of the biggest stars in the biz, and will open in theatres on December 17.
In Nightmare Alley, “when charismatic but down-on-his-luck Stanton Carlisle (Bradley Cooper) endears himself to clairvoyant Zeena (Toni Collette) and her has-been mentalist husband Pete (David Strathairn) at a traveling carnival, he crafts a golden ticket to success, using this newly acquired knowledge to grift the wealthy elite of 1940s New York society. With the virtuous Molly (Rooney Mara) loyally by his side, Stanton plots to con a dangerous tycoon (Richard Jenkins) with the aid of a mysterious psychiatrist (Cate Blanchett) who might be his most formidable opponent yet.” Check out the trailer!
Director Lee Haven Jones’ The Feast is getting rave reviews from it’s festival run and the Welsh horror from IFC is now available in theatres and on-demand. Dread Central has an exclusive clip from the film, and it speaks directly to The Feast‘s gruesome imagery and it’s themes of eco-horror and our entitlement to the earth’s resources.
The Feast, “follows a mysterious young woman who arrives to serve affluent guests at a dinner party in a remote house in the Welsh mountains. Finally, Roxanne Benjamin’s There’s Something Wrong With The Children is assembling a mighty cast as the project moves into production in New Orleans, according to Variety. The cast for this one includes Zach Gilford (The Purge: Anarchy, Friday Night Lights), Amanda Crew (Silicon Valley), Alisha Wainwright (Raising Dion), Carlos Santos (Gentefied) and newcomers Briella Guiza (Ambulance) and David Mattle (Life & Beth). Benjamin will direct from a script by T.J. Cimfel & David White (Intruders).
In There’s Something Wrong With The Children, “Margaret (Wainwright) and Ben (Gilford) take a weekend trip with longtime friends Ellie (Crew) and Thomas (Santos) and their two young children (Guiza and Mattle). Eventually, Ben begins to suspect something supernatural is occurring when the kids behave strangely after disappearing into the woods overnight.”
