‘The Rise of Skywalker’ to Defy Critics With a Solid Second Weekend

It’s the last weekend of the year AND the decade, and The Force will no doubt be closing the box office out in a good place.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, though its debut was on the low end of expectations, has been keeping pace with 2017’s The Last Jedi, while managing to deliver a solid $32 million on Christmas Day alone (my mother and I contributed to the number). While there are some new releases in theatres, none of them are going to take away from The Rise of Skywalker‘s reign at the top of the box office. Look for it to hold the top spot with $101 million.

One new release to keep your eyes on is Greta Gerwig’s directorial take on the classic Little Women. The film has been getting rave reviews and with its G rating, will make for some healthy family programming. Look for it to arrive in third place with $18 million.

As for the rest of the top five, Jumanji: The Next Level will be second place with $20 million. The new animated film Spies in Disguise, featuring the voices of Tom Holland and Will Smith, will grab fourth place with $16 million, while Frozen II will close things out in fifth place with $15 million.

So, to recap, here are our predictions:

1) Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker – $101 million
2) Jumanji: The Next Level – $20 million
3) Little Women – $18 million
4) Spies in Disguise – $16 million
5) Frozen II – $15 million

Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the weekend turns out!
