‘Ford v Ferrari’ and ‘Charlie’s Angels’ to Compete for Top of the Box Office

There are two new high profile movies hitting theatres this weekend – one a biofilm, the other a reboot of a female-fronted franchise.

Ford v Ferrari is the true story of Ford challenging Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966. The film is loaded with talent – Christian Bale, Matt Damon and director James Mangold. With those big names, excellent reviews, and no real competition for adult dramas, there’s a good chance the film will have a higher than expected opening. Look for Ford V Ferrari to drive into the top spot with $25 million.

Also new this weekend is a new version of Charlie’s Angels. This time out, Elizabeth Banks is behind the camera, with the Angels played by Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska. Reviews fall into the “ok” realm, but the hype just hasn’t been there for what was expected to be a new franchise. Look for a second place debut with $14 million.

As for the rest of the top five, Midway with be in third place with $10 million. Playing With Fire will be in fourth place with $9.5 million, while Doctor Sleep will close things out in fifth place with $8 million

So, to recap, here are our predictions:

1) Ford v Ferrari – $25 million
2) Charlie’s Angels – $14 million
3) Midway – $10 million
4) Playing With Fire – $9.5 million
5) Doctor Sleep – $8 million
