Epic Story In An Epic Book Is The ‘Saga Compendium Vol. 1’ On The Wednesday Run

If you weren’t on-board already (why wouldn’t you be?), now is the time for you to commit to Saga – easily one of the greatest science fiction and fantasy epics in comic book history.

Why is that you say?

Well, after fifty-four (near-monthly) chapters in the long and winding and immensely enjoyable series, every plot point and every emotional moment that has come thus far gets the royal treatment in a wonderful trade paperback compendium that clocks in at 1,400 pages of glorious story and art!

It’s amazingly saga-licious!

If you haven’t been reading Saga, know that it’s an ambitious character-driven epic that hearkens aspects of Romeo and Juliet as much as it does Star Wars. It’s the story of a child growing up and the trials and tribulations of her, her family and her friends – something that we can all identify with.

We’ve talked about Saga before, here at Biff Bam Pop! It’s one of our favourite reads, as evidenced here (the first issue, released way back in 2012) and here (the beginning of the fourth story arc with issue #19 back in 2014).

Saga has been collected many times, in smaller page-count formats, both as trade paperbacks and handsome hardcovers.

With issue #54 (published in the summer of 2018) of the star-spanning, Eisner-Award winning series, creators Brian k. Vaughan (writer) and Fiona Staples (artist), took a bit of a break to recharge their batteries. They promised to return in just over a years’ time.

That union mandated break is nearly up, and we readers are anxiously awaiting issue #55. Especially after the shocking way #54 ended!

With today’s release of the trade paperback compendium, this is the first time that the entire Saga series (thus far) has been stitched together. All fifty-four issues.

And at an approximate price tag of about $60, that’s big bang for your buck! And, as a quick aside to showcase your potential savings, the three hardcover volumes go for about $25 a pop. The nine volumes of the paperback collection can go for around $12 each. Meanwhile, the first issue of the series alone now fetches a price upwards of $150. If your into reading and/or collecting such things. And if you can find it.

Best of all, with the release of the Saga Compendium Vol. 1, the next monthly issue must be close at hand. And an end to the beloved series may not be forthcoming in the near term, which is a great thing for readers who look forward to each new chapter. If a Saga Compendium Vol. 1 is in the offing, then a Vol. 2 must also be in the design stage. Which means a few more years of must-read storytelling to come from our narrator/protagonist, Hazel, and her star-crossed parents and pals.

Make the run to your local comic book shop today and marathon all fifty-four issues of the heart-warming, shocking, tear-jerking, page-turning and unbelievably wonderful series that is the Saga Compendium Vol. 1.
