Will Audiences Flock to ‘The Angry Birds Movie 2’ This Weekend or Choose to See ‘Good Boys?’

There are quite a few new movies hitting theatres this weekend with something for everyone. However, don’t expect any of them to deliver big numbers.

Now, I don’t know any adults who liked the first Angry Birds film, but apparently, there were more than enough kids out there who saw it because there’s a sequel out this weekend. The Angry Birds Movie 2 features the voice talents of Peter Dinklage, Jason Sudeikis, Leslie Jones, Maya Rudolph and more. Reviews have been surprisingly decent, which should make the movie this weekend’s pick for families. Look for The Angry Birds Movie 2 to debut in first place with $22 million.

Good Boys is an R-rated comedy focusing on the antics of three pre-teen boys invited to their first kissing party. The film stars Jacob Tremblay, is written and directed by first time director Gene Stupnitsky and is produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. The R-rating should bring out an audience eager for some dirty laughs, though the lack of any star power may hinder the film from breaking out. Look for a second-place debut for Good Boys with $17 million.

The final new release of the weekend is 47 Meters Down: Uncaged, a sequel to the surprisingly successful 2017 release. The main creatives are back on the film, with a new group of actors who have to face off against the deadliest of sharks. Look for a fourth-place debut with $14 million.

As for the rest of the top five, Hobbs and Shaw will be in third place with $15 million, while Disney’s The Lion King will close things out in fifth place with $13.5 million.

So, to recap, here are our predictions:

1) The Angry Birds Movie 2 – $22 million
2) Good Boys – $17 million
3) Hobbs and Shaw – $15 million
4) 47 Meters Down: Uncaged – $14 million
5) Disney’s The Lion King – $13.5 million

Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the weekend turns out!
