All Your Money Belongs to ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Now

There was never a question that Avengers: Endgame would win its opening weekend at the box office. No one knew how much money it would make, or how fast. When the movie brought in $156.7 million on its opening day, it became the fourth highest grossing movie of 2019.

When all was said and done, Avengers: Endgame closed out the weekend with a domestic gross of $350 million. That’s more than the entire gross domestic product of South Africa! Were there other films to choose from this weekend? Sure, but who cares? With a global gross of $1.1 billion, the weekend belonged to Marvel, Disney, and the Avengers.

So, to recap, here were our predictions.

1) Avengers: Endgame – $295 million
2) The Curse of La Llorona – $10 million
3) Shazam – $8 million
4) Breakthrough – $6 million
5) Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel – $4.5 million

Here’s how the weekend actually turned out.

1) Avengers: Endgame – $350 million
2) Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel – $8 million
3) The Curse of La Llorona – $7.5 million
4) Breakthrough – $6 million
5) Shazam – $5.5 million

Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel rebounded from the number five position last week to land at number two. You can thank Avengers: Endgame for that.

This coming weekend sees the release of the new Joe Carnahan action movie, El Chicano, creepy Dennis Quaid in The Intruder, the Seth Rogen romcom, Long Shot, and the animated film, UglyDolls. Will any of them be able to unseat Avengers: Endgame as box office champion?

No. They will not.
