Can you feel it? It’s the calm before the coming storm that will be next week and Avengers: Endgame. In the meantime, we have this weekend at the box office to get through, even if it might be a relatively quiet one.
That is, unless The Curse of La Llorona has anything to say about it. A new horror film from the producers of The Conjuring, the trailers about a family being haunted (hunted) by a vengeful spirit have been creepy, and its been a few weeks since Jordan Peele’s Us was on top of the box office, so horror fans are definitely looking for something new. The movie is budgeted at $15 million, and it should have no problem making that much in its opening weekend, plus a little extra. Look for The Curse of La Llorona to debut in first place with $18 million.
As for the rest of the top five, Shazam will drop to second place with $16.5 million. The religion-based Breakthrough starring This Is Us‘ Chrissy Metz will debut in third place with $12 million, followed in fourth place by Little with $10 million. Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel will close things out in fifth place with $7 million.
So, to recap, here are our predictions:
1) The Curse of La Llorona – $18 million
2) Shazam – $16.5 million
3) Breakthrough – $12 million
4) Little – $10 million
5) Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel – $7 million
Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the weekend turns out!
