The Week In Horror: ‘Hellboy,’ Rondo Awards, ‘Critters’

Hello, fiends! I’m spending my Saturday watching Eli Roth’s History of Horror on Shudder. I heard a lot of friends poo-pooing the series when it aired, and no, it’s not a deep dive. If you’re an obsessive horror fan, there’s nothing new here, but it’s still a well-made series. I’m really enjoying it for the interviews and just to rewatch some of the greatest horror scenes all laid out side by side. I recommend it. Can’t wait for the uncut series of interviews.

But now, how about a red band trailer for the new Hellboy? Looks good. I don’t understand rebooting a franchise that is still as fresh as Hellboy, but it’s not my money, I guess. It’s likely going to be a very good movie, but you know as beloved as Guillermo Del Toro is, there’s going to be some butthurt associated with the film. To me, they should have just made part three, even with this cast and crew. The Bond series didn’t start all over every time a new actor put on a bow tie. #BatmanToo

Voting for the 17th Annual Rondo Awards is underway. “Honoring the best in classic horror research, creativity, and film preservation.” Scrolling through the list of nominees, one can see what an amazing year of horror we’ve had. Click HERE to see the ballot and vote.

Back in the 80s, in the wake of Joe Dante’s Gremlins, there was a slew of little monster movies. The best by far was Critters, which spawned three sequels then went quiet. Until NOW. Holy shit, fiends, THE KRITES ARE BACK! In their own series on Shudder! Coming March 21st! Check out the trailer below…
