Audiences Get Themselves to ‘The Nun’ in a Hurry

It’s been an epic weekend for horror, with the TIFF premiere of Halloween (2018), and the incredible box office gross for The Nun, the latest in the Conjuring film franchise.

The film, which definitely didn’t score critical acclaim, managed to nail the biggest debut in franchise history, bringing in an estimated $53.5 million. That’s a huge amount for any film at this time of year, and it’s especially outstanding for a horror movie. Awareness was high for the movie, and while there was no chance The Nun was going to lose, a debut like this is above and beyond what was expected.

As for the rest of the top five, Crazy Rich Asians was in second place with an estimated $13.6 million. Peppermint debut in third place with a lackluster $13 million, followed in fourth place by The Meg with $6 million. Searching closed things out in fifth place with $4.5 million.
