‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ to Hold Off ‘Sicario’, ‘Uncle Drew’ at Box Office

Can a sequel survive when the visionary director of the original isn’t behind the camera? That’s what we’ll find out this weekend, with the arrival of Sicario: Day of the Soldado.

The original 2015 film Sicario was directed by Denis Vileneuve, one of the most heralded visionaries currently making films. The movie only made about $46 million when it was in theaters, but over the last few years its developed a large following. For the new film, original star Emily Blunt is absent, thought both Josh Brolin an Benicio Del Toro are back. Reviews have not been as strong this time out, and the movie is not really in the blockbuster category one expects for summer releases. On that note, look for Sicario: Day of the Soldado to debut in third place with $17 million.

As for the rest of the top five, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom will continue on top. Look for it to deliver $62 million. Incredibles 2 will in second place with $45 million, as it crosses the $400 million mark. The new basketball comedy Uncle Drew will arrive in fourth place with $16 million, while Ocean’s 8 will close things out in fifth with $7 million.

So, to recap, here are our predictions:

1) Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom – $62 million
2) Incredibles 2 – $45 million
3) Sicario: Day of the Soldado – $17 million
4) Uncle Drew – $16 million
5) Ocean’s 6 – $7 million

Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the weekend turns out!
