The Combined Power of Amazing Women Will Make ‘Ocean’s 8’ Swim

This weekend, a venerable film franchise does a gender flip with some of the biggest female stars in Hollywood. That means you can definitely bank on Ocean’s 8 topping the box office.

Just look at the names of the actors top-lining the movie:

  • Sandra Bullock
  • Cate Blanchett
  • Anne Hathaway
  • Sarah Paulson
  • Helena Bonham Carter
  • Mindy Kaling
  • Rihanna
  • Dakota Fanning

This is simply an amazing cast, and it is one that is going to bring in a guranteed audience this weekend. Some pundits have suggested a mid-$30 million debut for Ocean’s 8, but I think the combination of the talent and the times we’re currently living through will make this a must-see for women this weekend. Look for a first place debut with $45 million.

Almost out this weekend is the highly anticipated horror film, Hereditary, which has been getting outstanding reviews. The Movie doesn’t have any huge names to draw audiences in (sorry Toni Collette and Gabriel Byrne), so it’s really going to have to rely on word of mouth to get people into seats this weekend. Also going against Hereditary from a box office perspective is its more cerebral nature. Like The Witch from a few years ago, it’s likely that it won’t be appealing to teen audiences looking for a cheap scare. On that note, look for a fourth place debut with $10 million.

As for the rest of the top five, Solo: A Star Wars Solo will fall to second place with $15 million. Deadpool 2 will be in third place with $12 million, while Avengers: Infinity War will close things out in fifth place with $7.5 million.

So, to recap, here are our predictions:

1) Ocean’s 8 – $45 million
2) Solo: A Star Wars Story – $15 million
3) Deadpool 2 – $12 million
4) Hereditary – $10 million
5) Avengers: Infinity War – $7.5 million

Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the weekend turns out!
