In an incredible feat of strength, Avengers: Infinity War became the fastest film to gross over $1 billion at the box office, taking just eleven days to do so. It hit that astounding number over the weekend, as it held on to the top spot around the world. Here’s what went down:
Infinity War remained at number one at North American box office, bringing in an estimated $112 million at the box office, raising its one week total to $450 million in North America and $1.16 billion around the world. It’s the sixth Marvel Studios film to cross that magic number worldwide. Could the film reach $2 billion worldwide? I wouldn’t rule it out, especially since it has next weekend free in North America to rule the box office. Infinity War currently sits as the second biggest film of the year, both in North America and worldwide, with only Black Panther holding it out of the top spot. That certainly won’t remain the case for too much longer, at least when it comes to the worldwide box office grosses. Black Panther is poised to hit $700 million domestically in the next two weeks, and that lofty number might be too high for even the Avengers to scale.
As for the rest of the top five, Overboard debut in second place with $14.7 million. A Quiet Place was in third with $7.6 million, while I Feel Pretty grabbed fourth place with $4.9 million. Rampage closed things out in fifth place with $4.6 million.
