It’s the first weekend of 2018, and one new release is hoping to knock Star Wars: The Last Jedi from the top spot. Will it succeed? Here’s our prediction:
Insidious: The Last Key is the fourth instalment in the succesful horror franchise that continues to scare up box office dollars. The film should do fairly well this weekend, but it’s doubtful that it will be able to compete with either the juggernaut that is The Last Jedi or the surprisingly popular Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle. Look for it to get teens out and debut in third place with $19 million.
So what film will be number? It’s going to be a battle between Jumanji and The Last Jedi, but with the latest Star Wars having already made more than $500 million, its audience may have already been super-served. Meanwhile, Jumanji has proven to have serious legs since its release. While it may be close, look for Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle to top the box office with $33 million, knocking Star Wars: The Last Jedi into second place, where it should bring in $30 million.
As for the rest of the top five, The Great Showman will ever in fourth place with $13 million, while Ferdinand will close things out in fifth place with $10 million.
So, to recap, here are our predictions:
1) Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle – $33 million
2) Star Wars: The Last Jedi – $30 million
3) Insidious: The Last Key – $19 million
4) The Great Showman – $13 million
5) Ferdinand – $10 million
