There are no big releases hitting theatres this weekend, so consider this your quick and dirty box office predictions.
The Hitman’s Bodyguard should have no trouble holding on to the top spot at the box office. It won’t be with a big number, mind you. Look for a first place showing with $11 million.
Annabelle: Creation will be in second place with $8 million. Dunkirk will be in third place with $5 million, while Logan Lucky will follow it in fourth with $4.5 million. the kids film Leap! might just debut in fifth place, but it will be with barely $4 million.
One film worth tracking down if you can find it is the limited release Bushwick, starring Britney Snow and Dave Bautista. I had a chance to see this in advance, and it is a tense, minimally edited action film set in a New York City borough that has suddenly become a war zone. Both Snow and Bautista give strong performances, with the latter demonstrating an emotional range that he hasn’t had the chance to showcase much before, This movie actually stuck with me for days and, no exaggeration, haunted my dreams. Perhaps its because of the world situation we’re currently facing, and the fear of escalation, but Bushwick feels extremely timely.
So, to recap, here are our predicitons:
1) The Hitman’s Bodyguard – $11 million
2) Annabelle: Creation – $8 million
3) Dunkirk – $5 million
4) Logan Lucky – $4.5 million
5) Leap! – $4 million
Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the weekend turns out!
Bushwick – interesting … gonna track it down. 🙂
