Wonder Woman looking to right the DC movie wrongs at the box office

It should be a wonderful weekend at the box office, as the first major female super hero film is hitting theatres. How much will it make? Here’s our prediction:

Wonder Woman looks to finally get the DC Cinematic Universe on track, after lackluster critical responses for Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Suicide Squad. Directed by Patty Jenkins, the film stars Gal Gadot as the title character, and is an origin story set during the First World War. The film has been getting simply outstanding reviews, and currently sits at 92% fresh at Rotten Tomatos. Anticipation is super high for Wonder Woman, and I think it’s going to perform stronger than many are anticipating. Look for a first place debut with $105 million.

Also new this weekend is Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, which brings the popular kids series to the big screen. It should be the young family pick for the weekend, as it is also generating favourtable reviews. Look for a second place debut with $35 million.

As for the rest of the top five, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales will suffer a steep drop this weekend. Look for it to land in third place with $23 million. Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume Two will be in fourth with $11 million, while Alien: Covenant will close things out in fifth place with $7 million.

So, to recap, here are our predictions:

1) Wonder Woman – $105 million
2) Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie – $35 million
3) Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales – $23 million
4) Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume Two – $11 million
5) Alien: Covenant – $7 million

Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the weekend turns out!
