Man, oh, man – I’d hate to be the big wigs at Warner Brothers. They just can’t seem to get it right with their DC properties, at least according to reviewers. Will the poor notices for their latest endeavour have an effect on the box office this weekend? Here’s our prediction:
Make no mistake about it, audiences are excited for the arrival of director David Ayers’ Suicide Squad. The trailers have been played ad infinitum, Jared Leto’s take on the iconic Joker has been much discussed, and Margot Robbie seems to be the physical manifestation of the beloved Harley Quinn. So what to make of the absolutely disastrous reviews that have appeared this week? The film currently sits at an abysmal 27% at Rotten Tomatoes, which currently makes it tied with the critical appraisal for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. The anticipation for the film is definitely going to win out over the critics this weekend, as Suicide Squad is a lock for number one with somewhere in the neighbourhood of $135 million. However, we could see it crash and burn badly in week two.
As for the rest of the top five, Jason Bourne will be in second place with $25 million. Bad Moms will be behind it in third place with $14 million. Star Trek Beyond will grab fourth place with $10 million, while The Secret Life of Pets will close things out in fifth with $8 million.
So, to recap, here are our predictions:
1) Suicide Squad – $135 million
2) Jason Bourne – $25 million
3) Bad Moms – $14 million
4) Star Trek Beyond – $10 million
5) The Secret Life of Pets – $8 million
