Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles look to top the box office

Did you read the Fall of the Mutants? The Marvel Comics crossover that went through the various mutant books in the late 80s. Well, you’re about to see it happen at the box office this weekend. Here’s our prediction:

This weekend sees the release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, a sequel to the 2014 successful reboot of the heroes in a half-shell. There’s incredible awareness about this second go-around, due in large part to co-star Stephen Amell’s Facebook presence and solid ability to get people talking. It may not make the $65 million the first film netted opened weekend, but look for this instalment of TMNT to top the box office with $35 million.

Also opening this weekend is the romantic drama Me Before You that should get a strong female audience to turn out, along with anyone looking to see Emilia Clarke fully clothed. Look for a third place debut with $20 million.

As for the rest of the top five, look for X-Men: Apocalypse to take a serious plunge week to week. Reviews simply weren’t kind to this instalment and audience apathy has set in to conventional X-Men films, especially after the breakaway success of Deadpool. People like the mutants, but there’s nothing terribly unique about Apocalypse to bring in casual fans. Look for a second place showing with $22 million.

Alice Through The Looking Glass will be in fourth place with $15 million, whileThe Angry Birds Movie will close things out in fifth place with $10 million.

So, to recap, here are our predictions:

1) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shell – $35 million
2) X-Men: Apocalypse – $22 million
3) Me Before You – $20 million
4) The Angry Birds Movie – $15 million
5)The Angry Birds Movie– $10 million

Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the weekend turns out!
