Okay, let’s just get this out of the way. When it comes to predicting the weekend box office, Andy Burns is the master, and I just don’t know what I’m talking about. I had suggested a couple days back that Deadpool would still be on top with Zootopia a close second… and well, Zootopia buried the merc with a mouth. We’ll take a look at the real numbers in the Wrap-Up Report, after the jump.
Disney’s Zootopia, which having seen it over the weekend, I have to admit was a pretty darn good flick, did a phenomenal $70 million dollars leaving second place London Has Fallen in the dust with only $20.5 million. Deadpool grabbed onto to third place close behind, with both Whiskey Tango Foxtrot and Gods of Egypt each pulling in with low millions for fourth and fifth place at the weekend box office.
The rest of the top ten included, in descending order – Risen, Oscar-winning The Revenant, Olympic underdog triumph Eddie the Eagle, Kung Fu Panda 3, and Stephen King’s current favorite horror flick The Witch. This week’s new horror, The Other Side of the Door, which didn’t even rank in the top fifteen, made a scary million this weekend.
So, to recap, here were Biff Bam Pop’s predictions:
1) Deadpool – $31 million
2) Zootopia – $30 million
3) Whiskey Tango Foxtrot – $26 million
4) London Has Fallen – $15 million
5) Gods of Egypt – $11 million
And here’s how things really turned out:
1) Zootopia – $70.3 million
2) London Has Fallen – $20.5 million
3) Deadpool – $17 million
4) Whiskey Tango Foxtrot – $6.9 million
5) Gods of Egypt – $4.4 million
This coming Friday sees the highly anticipated release of 10 Cloverfield Lane, as well as the new comedy from Sasha Baron Cohen, The Brothers Grimsby.
Check back here Friday for next week’s predictions, when Andy Burns, Box Office Predictor Supreme, will be back. He knows what he’s talking about.
